Photo of Mandy Smith

Mandy joined the Five Stars Appeal as a Trustee 18 months ago and is proud to be part of such a worthy cause. Mandy is working closely with Gary Owen and between them have upgraded and re launched the charity shop in Prestwich.

Pop…
Mandy was the first artist to sign with pop svengali Pete Waterman’s label, PWL Records. She stormed the charts worldwide with a string of classics from the legendary Stock Aitken Waterman `Hit Factory’, including the perennial club favourite I Just Can’t Wait and a cover of the Human League’s Don’t You Want Me Baby?. With Number One success in Japan, across Europe and beyond, Mandy played to a crowd of 35,000 at Festivalbar in Verona, Italy. Her album, Mandy, in demand ever since its original release, was reissued as a deluxe Special Edition in April 2009 – the initial pressing selling out within days.
Fashion…
As a model, Mandy has graced many a cover, making multiple appearances in every international magazine from Vogue and Harpers & Queen to Rolling Stone and Hello!. On the catwalk, she has appeared for Vivienne Westwood amongst others, while commercials have ranged from Guess Jeans to 7 Up Light, a campaign fronted by Mandy with none other than Robbie Williams.
TV…
Mandy is a familiar face to TV audiences in the UK and beyond, hosting shows herself as well as countless other interviews, performances and personal appearances.
…and Beyond
Mandy became a bestselling author in 1994 with the publication of her autobiography, It’s All Over Now. But with the birth of her son Max in 2001, she chose to become a full-time mum, branching out as a freelance make-up artist once he was old enough to attend nursery. Putting this natural talent to further good use, she also wrote a monthly beauty column for a celebrity/lifestyle magazine.
Mandy recently relocated from London to Manchester and now that Max is 8 years old, she feels the time is right to take on exciting new projects. She has become an Ambassador for the Five Stars Appeal children’s charity, a volunteer for Home-Start and the myplace programme, as well as promoting Body Energy’s alternative therapy.
Together with her sister Nicola, Mandy has found the time to set up a boutique PR service, KissPR.net, specialising in event management and currently working on a TV documentary highlighting the effects of BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder). Mandy identifies with those who suffer poor health, having endured debilitating illness herself in the past. Now she is not only feeling fighting fit, but passionate about helping others.
