ITV’s Auction Party A Hit With The Five Stars Appeal Wed 26th Jan 11 - 17:06
The Five Stars Appeal Children’s Charity was chosen from a lineup of local charities to take part in ITV’s new primetime show ‘Auction Party’ which will see charities up and down the country go head to head in a competition to raise funds for good causes.
The new feel good show, hosted by the flamboyant Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, came to Cheshire in a bid to see the Five Stars Appeal take on The Christie Hospital team at an event held at the Festival Hall in Alderley Edge.
Thanks to the generous supporters of the Five Stars Appeal Children’s Charity, the auction raised thousands of pounds towards the charity’s aim to buy an MRI scanner for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. The Five Stars launch a new campaign in February as the MRI scanner is now in place at the hospital, helping to save the lives of children.
Between the two charities, over 30 lots went to auction after being whittled down from over 50 by Laurence himself who inspected all items on the day. On Laurence’s advice, a drawing of Rio Ferdinand by famous local artist Darren Baker was taken out of the line up to be sold privately due to the retail value being so high at £4500.
One of the lots to stay in was a stunning mans watch encased in a beautiful wooden box donated by Bellagio Time. To add some extra glitz to the event Craig Gazey (aka Corrie’s Graeme Proctor), who is an Ambassador for the Five Stars Appeal, arranged for the box to be signed by many of the Coronation Street cast members.
Not to be out glitzed, Laurence who strutted his stuff in a perfectly tailored checkered suit with trademark groomed hair was presented with a chocolate model of himself by chocolatier Simon Dunn. He proudly proclaimed "people have always told me if I was made of chocolate I'd eat myself, and now I can!" Once the auction winner was announced, the party headed off to the glamorous surroundings of Panacea Alderley to celebrate!
Mandy Smith, Chair of Five Stars said “It’s been a great day and no matter who wins, both charities will benefit from all donations raised at the auction. Laurence has been brilliant fun all day too.” Viewers will have to wait until the show airs in February to see which charity ended up raising the most. For updates visit www.fivestarsappeal.co.uk.
